History
Formed in 1803 from Jefferson County and Washington County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Columbiana County was created on May 1, 1803, from Jefferson and Washington counties. The county was named after Christopher Columbus. Columbiana lost territory over time: in 1808 to the creation of Stark and Wayne, in 1833 to the creation of Carroll and to Jefferson, and in 1846 to the creation of Mahoning.
