History

Formed in 1868 from Stevens County, Traverse County, Wilkin County and Douglas County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Grant County was created from Stevens, Traverse, and Wilkin counties on March 6, 1868, but was not fully organized at that time and was attached to Douglas County for record and judicial purposes. The county was organized for government on February 28, 1873, and fully organized and detached from Douglas County on March 1, 1883.
