History

Formed in 1853 from Dakota County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Nicollet County was established in 1853 from Dakota County, fully organized at that time with Pierce County attached for judicial purposes. Over the following years, the county's boundaries changed through adjustments with neighboring counties including Sibley, Renville, Stearns, and Pembina (now Kittson).

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
