History

Formed in 1858 from Davis County, Meeker County, Pierce County and Renville County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Kandiyohi County was created from Davis (extinct), Meeker, Pierce (extinct), Renville, and Non-County Area 5 on October 12, 1858, and was organized for county government. The county was attached to Meeker for judicial purposes in 1866, then gained all of Monongalia County in 1870 when Monongalia was eliminated. Kandiyohi became fully organized and independent on March 6, 1871.
