History
Formed in 1869 from Redwood County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Lyon County was created from Redwood County but was not immediately fully organized, remaining attached to Redwood for judicial purposes. The county was organized for government on August 12, 1870, and became fully detached from Redwood on March 9, 1875. Lyon lost territory to the creation of Lincoln County in 1873 but later served as an intermediate attachment for Lincoln until Lincoln was fully organized and detached in 1881.
