History

Formed in 1856 from Benton County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Morrison County was organized for county government in 1856, initially attached to Benton County for judicial purposes. Over the following years, Morrison County's boundaries shifted as neighboring counties were attached for various purposes, including Todd, Cass, Itasca, Mille Lacs, and others, with several of these counties eventually organizing independently and detaching from Morrison.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
