History
Formed in 1858 from Pembina County and Kittson County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Originally created as Toombs County, it was renamed Andy Johnson in 1863, then renamed Wilkin in 1868 when Grant County was created from it. Wilkin was detached and reattached to several counties for judicial and administrative purposes between 1864 and 1872, finally organizing for county government on March 4, 1872.
