History

Formed in 1854 from Fillmore County and Wabasha County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Winona County was created from Fillmore and Wabasha Counties on February 23, 1854, and was fully organized at that time. In 1918, the county gained Island no. 72 in the Mississippi River from Wisconsin as part of an exchange of islands between Minnesota and Wisconsin.
