History

Formed in 1862 from Brown County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Redwood County was named after the Redwood River. The county was organized for government in February 1865 and fully organized in February 1868, when it was detached from Brown County. Between 1869 and 1871, Redwood County lost territory through the creation of Lyon County, Lac Qui Parle County, and Yellow Medicine County.
