History

Formed in 1820 from Marion County and Tuscaloosa County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Pickens County was created from Marion and Tuscaloosa counties in 1820. The county gained territory from Tuscaloosa in 1824 but lost land to the creation of Fayette County the same year. It gained a small area from Greene County in 1832 but lost portions of its boundary to Greene in 1843 and 1867.
