History
Formed in 1832 from St. Clair County and Shelby County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Talladega County was created from St. Clair and Shelby in 1832, and gained additional territory from Benton (now Calhoun) between 1836 and 1850. The county experienced significant boundary changes between 1866 and 1867, losing territory to the creation of Cleburne and Clay counties, then gaining territory back from those counties in 1867. Further adjustments with Clay County occurred in 1877, 1893, and 1894.
