History
Formed in 1818 from Montgomery County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Franklin County was created by the Alabama Territory from Montgomery County and Non-County Area 1. In 1867, Franklin County lost territory to the creation of Colbert County, but gained it back later that same year when Colbert was eliminated. Colbert County was recreated in 1870, taking land from Franklin County again.
