History

Formed in 1818 from Montgomery County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Originally created as Cahawba County from Montgomery County in 1818, it was renamed Bibb on December 4, 1820. The county's boundaries shifted multiple times through exchanges and adjustments with neighboring counties including Dallas, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, Autauga, and Perry. In 1868, Bibb County lost area to the creation of Baker County, now known as Chilton County.
