History

Formed in 1819 from Cahawba County, Bibb County, Dallas County, Marengo County and Tuscaloosa County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Perry County was named after Oliver Hazard Perry. The county exchanged territory with neighboring counties several times in the early 1820s and lost areas to the creation of Hale County in 1867 and to Dallas County in 1867 and 1868.
