History

Formed in 1868 from Baldwin County and Conecuh County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Escambia County was created from Baldwin and Conecuh counties in 1868, though a narrow strip of territory along the state line was inadvertently omitted from the formal definition and later corrected on March 5, 1907. The county experienced several boundary adjustments in its early years, including small losses to Covington County in 1870, and to Conecuh County in 1875 and 1887.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
