History

Formed in 1841 from Dale County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Coffee County was created from Dale County on December 29, 1841, and named after John Coffee. In 1866 and 1868, Coffee County lost territory to the creation of Crenshaw County and Geneva County, but gained back small areas from both counties in 1871 to accommodate local property owners.
