History
Formed in 1818 from Monroe County and Montgomery County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Dallas County was created by Alabama Territory from Monroe and Montgomery counties. The county was named after Alexander J. Dallas. Over the following decades, Dallas County underwent numerous boundary changes, losing territory to the creation of Cahawba (now Bibb), Butler, Perry, Wilcox, Lowndes, and Baker (now Chilton), while also gaining and losing small areas in exchanges with neighboring counties.
