History

Formed in 1818 from Monroe County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Conecuh County was created on February 13, 1818, by Alabama Territory from Monroe County and named after the Conecuh River. The county lost land to Baldwin, Butler, and Henry in 1819, and to Escambia in 1868, but gained territory from Butler, Covington, and Escambia in several transfers between 1837 and 1887.
