History
Formed in 1818 from Tuscaloosa County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Marion County was created by the Alabama Territory on February 13, 1818, from Tuscaloosa County, initially overlapping into Mississippi. Over the following decades, Marion County lost territory to the creation of several new counties: Pickens in 1820, Walker in 1823, Fayette in 1824, Jones in 1867, and Lamar in 1868.
