History

Formed in 1832 from Montgomery County and Pike County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Macon was created from Montgomery and Pike on December 18, 1832. Over the following decades, Macon's boundaries shifted through exchanges with surrounding counties, gaining and losing territory to Montgomery, Pike, Russell, Tallapoosa, and—in 1866—losing significant area to the creation of Bullock and Lee.
