History
Formed in 1867 from Franklin County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Colbert County was created from Franklin County on February 6, 1867, and named after Levi Colbert and George Colbert. Later that year, on November 29, Colbert lost all its territory to Franklin County and was eliminated, but it was re-created from Franklin on January 24, 1870. In 1895, Colbert gained territory from Lawrence County while losing some to Franklin County.
