History
Formed in 1823 from Jefferson County, Marion County and Tuscaloosa County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Walker County was created from Jefferson, Marion, and Tuscaloosa on December 26, 1823. The county's boundaries changed multiple times over the following decades, including losing territory to the creation of Fayette in 1824 and Hancock (now Winston) in 1850, and gaining and exchanging land with neighboring counties including Blount, Jefferson, and Tuscaloosa.
