History

Founded in 1799

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Adams County was created by Mississippi Territory from non-county area, initially including parts of present Alabama and Mississippi. On June 4, 1800, Adams lost territory to the creation of Washington County, Alabama, eliminating the county from present Alabama. Over the following decades, Adams exchanged and adjusted boundaries with neighboring counties including Jefferson, Wilkinson, and Franklin through various creations and transfers.
