History

Founded in 1821

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Hinds County was created on February 12, 1821, from non-county area. In its early years, the county lost territory to Warren, then to the creation of Copiah and Yazoo in 1823, and to the creation of Rankin in 1828. Hinds also lost territory to Madison County in 1829 and exchanged land with Madison in 1840.
