An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Wilkinson County was created in 1802 by Mississippi Territory from Adams County and named after James Wilkinson. The county experienced several boundary changes over its history, including losses to Amite County and Franklin County starting in 1809, along with multiple small exchanges with Adams County between 1846 and 1914.
