History
Formed in 1833 from Lowndes County, Monroe County, Washington County and Holmes County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Carroll County was created on December 23, 1833, from parts of Lowndes, Monroe, Washington, and Holmes counties. The county's boundaries changed significantly over the following decades, losing territory to the creation of Grenada County in 1870, Leflore County in 1871, and Montgomery County in 1871. Carroll made boundary exchanges with Leflore and Montgomery counties multiple times between 1877 and 1896.
