History
Formed in 1809 from Adams County, Amite County and Wilkinson County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Franklin County was first authorized for creation in 1808 from Wilkinson, but that creation never took effect. The county was officially created by the Mississippi Territory on December 21, 1809 from Adams, Amite, and Wilkinson, but lost territory to Jefferson County the very next day. Throughout the 19th century, Franklin County experienced multiple boundary changes, gaining and losing land to neighboring counties including Marion, Amite, Jefferson, Copiah, and Lincoln.
