History
Formed in 1820 from Greene County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Perry County was created from Greene County on February 3, 1820, and named after Oliver Hazard Perry. Over the following decades, Perry County's boundaries were adjusted through gains and losses from neighboring counties including Hancock, Jackson, Marion, Greene, and Harrison, and through the creation of Forrest County in 1908.
