History

Formed in 1890 from Hancock County and Marion County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Pearl River County was created from Hancock County and Marion County on February 22, 1890. In 1904, Pearl River County lost territory to the creation of Lamar County, and in 1930 lost small areas to Lamar County. The county gained territory from Hancock County in 1908 and from Lamar County in 1934.
