History

Formed in 1836 from La Salle County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Kane County was created on January 16, 1836, from La Salle County. The county was named after Elias Kane. Kane County lost territory to the creation of De Kalb County in 1837 and Kendall County in 1841.
