History
Formed in 1823 from Sangamon County and Greene County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Morgan County was created from Sangamon County and a non-county area that was attached to Greene County. The county was named after Daniel Morgan. Morgan County lost territory to the creation of Cass County in 1837 and Scott County in 1839, and again lost land to Cass County in 1845.
