History

Formed in 1825 from Fulton County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Knox County was created from Fulton County on January 13, 1825, and named after Henry Knox. In 1831, Knox gained territory from Henry and Putnam counties, with Henry attached for judicial purposes. Henry fully organized and detached from Knox in 1837, and Knox lost land to Stark County in 1839.
