History
Formed in 1817 from Madison County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Bond County was created by the Illinois Territory from Madison County, initially including territory that would become parts of Wisconsin and Michigan. When Illinois became a state in 1818, Bond County lost all its territory outside Illinois to Michigan Territory. Between 1821 and 1824, Bond County lost additional territory to the creation of Sangamon, Pike, Montgomery, Fayette, and Clinton Counties.
