History

Formed in 1836 from Jo Daviess County and La Salle County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Ogle County was created from Jo Daviess County and non-county area on January 16, 1836, and initially included territory that was later organized into separate counties. Whiteside County was temporarily attached to Ogle for judicial and county purposes in December 1836 but was fully organized and detached by February 1839. Between 1839 and 1841, the county gained territory from Jo Daviess County but lost territory to the creation of Lee County and faced an unsuccessful referendum regarding land to Carroll County.
