History
Formed in 1825 from Fulton County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Henry County was created on January 13, 1825, from Non-County Area 5 attached to Fulton County and named after Patrick Henry. The county experienced several boundary changes in its early years, losing land to the creation of Jo Daviess County in 1827 and Whiteside County in 1836, while gaining territory from Jo Daviess and Putnam counties in 1831. Henry County was fully organized on June 19, 1837, when it was detached from Knox County.
