History

Founded in 1810

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

ST. Tammany Parish was created in 1810 by proclamation of the Territorial Governor from non-parish area within Feliciana County. The parish lost territory to the creation of St. Helena Parish in 1811, Washington Parish in 1819, and Tangipahoa Parish in 1869. In 1979, ST. Tammany gained land when boundaries through Lake Pontchartrain were defined.
