An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Grant County was created from non-county area on March 31, 1887. In 1895, Grant County lost territory to Deuel County. A boundary dispute with Garden County over jurisdiction of an area along Grant's western border was resolved in 1919 when the Nebraska Supreme Court ruled in Grant County's favor.
