History
Formed in 1909 from Deuel County, Arthur County and Grant County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Garden County was created on November 2, 1909, from Deuel County, with portions also involving Arthur and Grant counties. The county's boundaries were disputed for years, particularly with Arthur and Grant counties over the location of the 25th degree of longitude west of Washington. A series of Nebraska Supreme Court decisions between 1916 and 1925 resolved these disputes, with Garden losing territory to Grant in 1919 and exchanging land with Arthur in 1921 and 1925.
