History
Formed in 1856 from McNeale County, Izard County and Stanton County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Pierce County was created on January 26, 1856, from McNEALE and from area that was formerly part of Izard before it was relocated to become Stanton. The county was named after Franklin Pierce. After initial creation, Pierce lost territory to the formation of L'Eau Qui Court (now Knox) in 1857 and to the creation of Cedar County in the same year, though it later gained back small areas from Cedar in 1860 and 1875. Pierce County was fully organized on July 26, 1870.
