History
Formed in 1877 from Valley County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Wheeler County was created from non-county areas and attached to Valley County in 1877, though it was not fully organized until 1881. The county was named after Daniel H. Wheeler. In 1884, Wheeler County lost territory to the creation of Garfield County following a vote by electors.
