History
Formed in 1888 from Cheyenne County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Deuel County was created on November 6, 1888, from Cheyenne County by vote of the electors and named after Harry P. Deuel. The county's boundaries changed when it gained territory from Arthur and Grant counties in 1895, and lost territory to the creation of Garden County in 1909.
