History

Formed in 1855 from Burt County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Originally created as Izard County in 1855 from Burt County and non-county area, it was not fully organized at that time. The county was renamed Stanton in 1862, after Edwin M. Stanton. Stanton County lost territory to Cuming County in 1866, and was fully organized the following year in 1867.
