History
Formed in 1868 from Pickens County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Oconee County was created from Pickens County on January 29, 1868, with the same boundaries as Oconee District by ordinance of the state constitutional convention of 1868. When the state constitution abolished all judicial districts on April 16, 1868, Oconee District was eliminated and Oconee County continued as the unit of local government. In 1967, Oconee County lost territory to Pickens County.
