History
Formed in 1826 from Pendleton County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Pickens County was created from part of Pendleton (extinct) with the same boundaries as Pickens District, and was named after Andrew Pickens. On January 29, 1868, Pickens lost territory to the creation of Oconee County, and later that year the judicial district was eliminated when a new state constitution abolished all judicial districts. On February 20, 1967, Pickens regained territory from Oconee County.
