History

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Fairfield County was created within Camden District in 1785. In 1791, Fairfield County lost territory to the creation of Kershaw County. Fairfield District was established in 1800 from Camden District with the same boundaries, and served as the principal administrative subdivision until 1868, when the county assumed all functions of local government.
