History
Formed in 1720 from Prince George County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Brunswick County was created from Prince George County on December 17, 1720, but was not fully organized at that time and remained attached to Prince George. The county gained territory from Isle of Wight and Surry in 1723, and on January 1, 1733, was fully organized and detached from Prince George after gaining more land from the same two counties. Brunswick later lost territory to the creation of Amelia County in 1735, Lunenburg County in 1746, and Greensville County in 1781 and 1787.
