History
Formed in 1691 from New Kent County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
King and Queen County was created from New Kent County on May 12, 1691, and named after William Iii of England. Over the following decades, the county lost territory to the creation of King William County in 1702, Spotsylvania County in 1721, and Caroline County in 1728, with additional boundary adjustments to Caroline County in 1742 and 1763.
