History

Formed in 1791 from Augusta County, Botetourt County and Greenbrier County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Bath County, named after Bath, was established in 1791 from Augusta County, Botetourt County, and Greenbrier County. Over the following decades, Bath County lost territory to the creation of Pendleton County in West Virginia (1796), Pocahontas County in West Virginia (1821), Alleghany County (1822), Highland County (1847), and gained and lost land to Alleghany County between 1823 and 1847.
