History
Formed in 1842 from Grayson County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Carroll County was created on January 17, 1842, from Grayson County and named after Charles Carroll of Carrollton. The county gained land from Patrick County in 1856. Beginning in 1953, Carroll County lost territory to the independent city of Galax through multiple boundary changes.
