History
Formed in 1776 from Pittsylvania County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Henry County was created from Pittsylvania County in 1776. It lost territory to the creation of Franklin County in 1786 and Patrick County in 1791, then regained area from Patrick County in 1858. Starting in 1928, Henry County lost multiple areas to the independent city of Martinsville through the mid-twentieth century.
